We have a house on the Strand directly across from the courts, and it's open from the first serve to well after the last one. Duck out between matches, eat, watch your court from the deck, and be back in time for your next one. When the finals wrap it turns into the real thing.

How the draw works

There are no pre-made teams in this tournament. All 60 players enter individually, we rank the field, and on the morning of the event the board is folded in half to make 30 teams: the top-ranked player with the lowest, second with second-from-bottom, all the way to the middle.

Nobody picks anybody. #1 is drawn with #60, #2 with #59, and so on to the middle — 30 teams, every one of them a stronger player and a weaker one. Pools are drawn off the finished board.

Weighted, so every team has a shot
A weighted draw is what keeps 30 teams competitive instead of stacking four of them. Pairing the top of the ranking with the bottom means nobody is drawn into a team of two beginners or a team of two ringers — and it means the least experienced players in the field are the ones drawn alongside the best, pros included.

Professional players are in this tournament, and you could end up next to one of them with $12,000 on the line. Two ways that happens: the 8 largest Clear Street funders choose their own partner outright — any player in the field, the pros included — and everyone else is paired by the weighted draw, which is built to put a top-ranked player with someone lower down the board. You don't need to know a pro or be anywhere near their level. You need to be in it.

Every drawn team plays four pool matches on its home court — one set to 21, win by 2, no cap. Pools run simultaneously across all 6 courts, so nobody sits around.

The top 2 finishers in each pool go through automatically. The four best third-place records fill out the bracket, ranked by match wins, then point differential.

Do I need a partner to sign up?+
No — and you can't bring one. Every player enters alone and is ranked on playing ability. On the morning of the tournament all 60 ranks go on one board and it folds in half: the top-ranked player is drawn with the lowest, the second with the second-from-bottom, on to the middle. How can I sign up?+
There's no cash entry fee — Clear Street sponsors the tourney and covers it, and the way to sign up is to open and fund a Clear Street account. It takes about five minutes. We rank the whole field before the day, and the draw pairs the board's top against its bottom: #1 with #60, #2 with #59, on to the middle. Yes, and we'd rather be straight about it: the 8 largest funded entries choose their own partner — any player in the field, the pros included. We contact those players the day before the tournament to make the pick. Everyone else, including everyone at the $5,000 minimum, is paired by the weighted draw. It's the 1st Annual South Bay No-Jump Classic, so you can guess the general direction. Six courts with the Strand running right behind them. We tell you exactly which ones the moment you register. We keep the exact courts off the public site on purpose — it keeps the tournament to the people actually playing in it.
Is the $12,000 purse guaranteed?+
The full $12,000 purse unlocks when the draw hits 60 funded players. If we finish short of 60, the purse scales proportionally and every registered player is notified before play begins. The live player count is published on this page.
What's the party?+
It isn't an after-party — we have a house on the Strand across from the courts and it's open all day, from first serve to well after the final, and the whole field ends up there. The address goes out with the court location once you register.
How is the purse split?+
$12,000 across the top four teams: $6,000 to the winners, $3,000 to second, and $1,500 to each of the two third-place teams. Both semifinalists who lose finish third — there is no third-place match. Partners split their team's share evenly.
